Project Overview

After moving to Leominster, Massachusetts, these new homeowners wanted an efficient and convenient way to cool their home during the summer months. They partnered with Jay Moody HVAC to install a Mitsubishi ductless mini-split heat pump system, improving comfort and energy efficiency while taking advantage of the Mass Save® Program and federal tax credits.

To support the new system and future electrical upgrades, the Jay Moody HVAC team also installed a 100 AMP electrical subpanel for the home.

From the Client:

I can’t say enough good things about Jay Moody. The entire process was seamless. All the technicians that came to install our ductless mini splits were professional and very skilled.”

The Challenge

The 1984 Modern Colonial had no existing ductwork, leaving the home hot and humid during Leominster’s warm summers. Meanwhile, their existing heating system lacked room-by-room temperature control, limiting comfort in transitional seasons.

The homeowners did not wish to cool the entire home—only their most used spaces. This made adding ductwork impractical. In addition to these comfort challenges, the home’s existing electrical panel had limited circuit space, even though the home’s overall electrical service capacity was adequate.

The Design

Jay Moody HVAC designed and installed a 3-zone Mitsubishi ductless heat pump system paired with a 100 AMP subpanel.

Each of the three wall-mounted Mitsubishi mini-split units connect to a single outdoor multi-zone condenser mounted on a pad and stand. The ductless system provides zoned comfort for the main bedroom, primary living room and in-law apartment living room.

To enhance energy efficiency and convenience, the installation included Mitsubishi Kumo Cloud controls, which integrate with the home’s existing heating system. This setup automatically switches to the existing fuel source during very cold weather, meeting Mass Save’s® Partial-Home Heat Pump Rebate requirements.

Project Execution

Each step of the project was carefully executed to provide a stress-free, quality experience for the new homeowners.

  • In-Home Consultation: Jay Moody HVAC’s owner and lead engineer, Leo Sharkey, met with the homeowners at their Leominster residence to learn more about their comfort goals and priorities for the space. Rather than selling a one-size-fits-all system, Leo focused on education and collaboration, helping the homeowners understand how a heat pump could best meet their needs.

During the visit, Leo conducted a Manual J Calculation, carefully assessing the home’s layout, insulation, windows and more to determine the ideal system for Leominster’s climate and the home’s build. He then presented two tailored system options, explaining how each would impact comfort, efficiency and eligibility for Mass Save® and federal heat pump incentives.

Throughout this personalized approach, Leo worked with the homeowners to design a Mitsubishi partial-home heat pump system that fit their home and lifestyle perfectly.

  • Installation: As Leominster’s leading heat pump contractor, Jay Moody HVAC follows precise installation standards. The installation team maintained a clean workspace, used high-quality materials and made sure all equipment was secured for long-term performance.

While the trained HVAC team handled the heat pump installation, Jay Moody’s in-house electrical team installed the subpanel and completed all related wiring. The company also managed all required permits and inspections. Before wrapping up, the team reviewed the new system’s operation and maintenance schedule with the homeowners to ensure lasting comfort.

  • Energy Incentives & Warranties: Leominster residents are eligible for valuable Mass Save® heat pump rebates and the 0% HEAT Loan, which provides financing up to $25,000. Jay Moody HVAC helped the homeowners navigate the rebate process and submitted the required paperwork.

The system qualified for the Mass Save® Partial-Home Rebate, the Mass Save® HEAT Loan and the $2,000 Federal Heat Pump Tax Credit.

As a Mitsubishi Diamond Elite Contractor, Jay Moody HVAC provides extended 12-year equipment warranties on all Mitsubishi heat pump installations. The team registered the warranties on behalf of the homeowners, ensuring full coverage and peace of mind.

With their new Mitsubishi ductless heat pump system, the Leominster homeowners now enjoy efficient, reliable heating and cooling year-round. The 3-zone setup provides flexible comfort, improved air quality, and energy savings—without the need for ductwork.

The entire team at Jay Moody HVAC is grateful for the opportunity to support our Leominster neighbors and homeowners across Massachusetts in finding tailored home comfort solutions.
