Mini-split heat pump systems are extremely comfortable and efficient heating and cooling options for Massachusetts homeowners… when they are installed and operated properly.
Here are the 3 mistakes homeowners should avoid when operating mini-split heat pump systems:
- Adjusting your thermostat settings too often.
- Turning of your mini-split off in cold weather.
- Forgetting regular maintenance.
Mistake #1: Adjusting Your Thermostat Settings Too Often
Avoid turning your mini-split systems “on” and “off” to control temperature or frequently adjusting your thermostat. This reduces the systems efficiency.
Instead, set your system to the temperature you find most comfortable for your home and leave it be. We like to say “set it and forget it”!
Mistake #2: Turning Your Mini-Split Off In Cold Weather
Don’t turn your mini-split systems off during cold weather. Cold Climate Heat Pumps are meant to run almost continuously and many systems work below zero degrees. While it may seem like they cost more because they run more, it’s actually the opposite!
In addition, you can make your mini-split system your primary heat source by turning your existing heating system down 5-10 degrees.
Mistake #3: Forgetting Regular Maintenance
Proper maintenance and care help your systems run more efficiently and last longer. We recommend homeowners clean their mini-split filters at least every three months to improve air quality. This can be done on your own, at home.
To ensure your mini-split runs as efficiently as possible for as long as possible, and to remain eligible for equipment warranties, we recommend yearly preventative maintenance be performed on all HVAC systems including mini-splits.
Mitsubishi mini-splits must be installed and serviced yearly by a registered Mitsubishi Contractor to qualify for equipment warranty.
